The National Weather Service forecasts more extreme heat for the Phoenix and Las Vegas areas this week, with temperatures expected to reach 111°F or higher.
An excessive heat watch is in effect for parts of Arizona and Nevada from Tuesday through Thursday. Last week, Phoenix and Las Vegas already experienced record-breaking high temperatures.
Albuquerque, New Mexico, also tied a record high temperature. Additionally, there are concerns about potential flash floods in northern New Mexico due to thunderstorms.
1. Excessive Heat Watch
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for the Phoenix metro area and other parts of south-central and northwest Arizona from Tuesday through Thursday.
2. Forecasted Temperatures
Temperatures could reach 111°F or higher in these areas.
3. Phoenix Record Heat
Phoenix hit 110°F for the first time this year last Thursday, with a record-setting high of 113°F.
4. Las Vegas Heat
Central Las Vegas is forecasted to experience dangerously high temperatures, with highs ranging from 108°F on Tuesday to 111°F on Wednesday. Las Vegas set records for the dates with temperatures of 111°F last Thursday and 110°F last Friday.
5. Albuquerque Record
Albuquerque, New Mexico, tied its record high of 100°F on Friday, a record set in 1981.
6. Thunderstorm and Flash Flood Warning
There is concern about thunderstorms potentially causing flash floods in the burn scar areas of the Calf Canyon/Hermit’s Peak Fire of 2022 in northern New Mexico.
